This week marked the first time I’ve been inside a church since lockdown. It was masks, no singing, handgel before/after communion and no shaking of hands during the Sign of the Peace (good – because I always hated that bit anyway. Enforced touching. Bleugh.)
But Joy still abounds! For the vicar in particular – as they now get to take a huge swig of the communion wine “on behalf of you all and so we don’t have to share the cup”. But also for the rest of the congregation too. Because the vicar isn’t quite yet used to the ‘new normal’ – all of the different arrangements and things to remember now…
… And they forgot to remove their microphone, when they went for a wee-wee, halfway through the service.
