I might have mentioned before that due to many years of commuting in my car (and terrible homesickness for BBC Radio 4 during the years that I lived in the Kalahari), I’ve ended up as something of an Archers addict, over the last decade.
These days, The Archers obsession even runs to the home-schooling. So, here’s a little Maths Question I posed for the students:
“Mum is glum because she has run out of her stock-pile episodes of The Archers. Now that there are only 5 x 13mins episodes a week, how can she best enjoy her listening?”
Here are their answers (with actual spelling):
DAUGHTER (15) “Mum can listen as normal Sun-Weds and Sunday and separate the Thursday episode into 2 portions of listening time of 6 1/2 minutes each and listen to one part-episode on Fri and one on Saturday”
SON (12) “Mum should NOT stockpile anything – durrr – esp The Archers as its sad and shes a class traytor for listening to it and come the revulushion she’s gonna be the 1st up against the wall. Mum should get a life and go out. Oh no sorry I forget, she can’t”

Another good tale, in these crazy times. I can’t believe that the Archers are still on the air.
Keep up the good work Christine. 🥰

thanks Hilde! Yes – they have some stamina don’t they? If you’re listening from abroad – I do recommend that you check out the BBC Sounds website. Loads of excellent items to listen to (including your 5 day a week Archers!) x
