***Doom Analogies***
Today’s home-schooling had to focus on ‘Medieval Doom Paintings and Their Purposes in Society.’
This is what my 12 yr old wrote, after studying them:
“I think that Doom Paintings were created because the people couldn’t read or write and weren’t properly educated. I think they were used by the rich people to control all the poor people. To make them feel dirty and sinful and really scared. I think they were created because if people were really scared, then they couldn’t rise up against the King and the Lords or to question what they were being told. I don’t think the people were stupid but I feel angry thinking about people in power like that, who try and control others with religion or with wars or the news. And the worst thing about it, is you don’t know all of the time, so you don’t know if you will end up in hell or not. So you do as they people in charge tell you. And they usually don’t know what they’re talking about. Or they have a sinister reason behind it all“
And as I was left going “hmmm,”… and my 15 yr old was going “this all sounds horribly familiar…can we study conspiracy theories next?” the 12 year goes:
“Right, that’s quite enough of Doom for one day. Can I have a chocolate chip cookie and go watch YouTube please? Or will I burn in hell for doing that?”
